It seems like TV shows based on video games are becoming all the rage.
As divulged today via Deadline, the USA Network has now ordered a pilot based on the 2003 novel Masters of Doom, which focuses on John Romero, John Carmack, and the founding of id Software and subsequent creation of DOOM. The pilot is set to be produced by Ramona Films, which is run by James and Dave Franco, alongside The Gotham Group and UCP. Tom Bissell, who has written for Gears of War, Uncharted, and other video games and novels, will serve as the writer of the pilot with the series planned to release as an “anthology.”
Details are currently still sparse on just who will star in this pilot and when it is set to release as initial work still seems to just be getting off of the ground. Masters of Doom has long been identified as one of the standout novels that focuses on game development alongside other best-sellers such as Console Wars. If done correctly, this Masters of Doom show could really be an interesting watch.
We’ll likely start to hear more about the plans that USA has for this series in the future once things get rolling a bit more. The history of DOOM’s development and the early days of id Software are quite fascinating so I’d definitely be interested in watching this myself.
What do you think? Does a show based on Masters of Doom interested you at all? Be sure to let me know down in the comments.
