Terraria Finally Comes to Nintendo Switch This Week

In a somewhat surprising announcement, Re-Logic announced on the Terraria forums that their super popular game is out on Nintendo Switch in two days. The port has been in development for a while now. In the forum post, the devs noted that “since the game is done, (they) figured (they) would just get it in your hands as soon as possible.” I’m sure Terrarians everywhere are glad for the news.

The port is being handled by Pipeworks Studios. They also did the ports for PS4 and Xbox One, so the game is in good hands. This release does come at an interesting time for Re-Logic. In addition to whatever assistance they’re providing to the Switch port, they continue to work toward ending development on their hit indie.

As announced a few weeks ago, Terraria: Journey’s End will be the final content update for the game. The update adds over 800 new items to collect along with numerous quality of life updates that should improve the experience for everyone. The enhanced world generation and new bestiary are particularly exciting for long-time fans. The update even adds a new golf mini-game.

Journey’s End is tentatively scheduled for a 2019 release. However, the team has made it clear that the update will be out “when it’s ready”. I’ll be interested to see how quickly this new Switch version gets that update after it comes out on PC. Hopefully, the wait is very short.

Terraria will be out on Nintendo Switch on June 27. The game is currently available on pretty much everything else at this point.

Terraria: Jouney’s End is the Final, Massive Update to the Hit Indie

Terraria was first released in 2011. The game has gone through countless updates and patches since then, but at E3 the team at Re-Logic revealed that the next major update will likely be their last. Titled Terraria: Journey’s End, this update will touch almost every aspect of the game and put everything in a place the devs are happy with. Watch the short trailer below.

Journey’s End has tons of content. There will be over 800 new items for you to play or craft. The team has also added a bunch of new foes to battle and challenges to tackle. And, of course, conquering those will provide you with quite the loot haul.

Re-Logic is also completely reworking its world generation. This includes sprucing up the world diversity with a number of mini-biomes for you to explore. Those biomes will be full of monsters that you can read about in the game’s new Bestiary. This in-game data log will track key stats on every monster along with what they can potentially drop.

Journey’s End introduces Block Swapping, the Void Vault, Expert Mode, enhanced weather effects, and golf. That’s right, golf! This update really does have everything. And the team is not planning to reveal all that’s coming just yet. Instead, they hope to keep some things a secret up through release. That said, if you want to get a better idea of everything coming, make sure to visit the game’s info page.

Terraria: Journey’s End is coming to PC this year (hopefully). The team is aiming for a 2019 release but will put the game out “when it’s ready”. The update will be coming to all other platforms at a later date. Keep your eyes on DualShockers for all the news coming out of E3.

Terraria’s Massive 1.3 Update Now on PS4 and Xbox One

Developers Re-Logic and Pipeworks Studios alongside publisher 505 Games is bringing Terraria‘s massive 1.3 update to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

This update will give the game more parity with the PC version. In a statement from the press release, Neil Ralley, President of 505 Games, discusses this, as well as how it will benefit the players:

“Our teams have put an immense amount of work into this update so our fans on console will have access to all the same features and improvements available for PC, providing a truly fresh experience for even long-time players and allowing them to experience the game all over again.”

The 1.3 update, the largest one to be implemented, adds a slew of features including new modes, events, crafting, and more. The lengthy 1.3 Changelog is available on Terraria‘s forum, but here is a brief overview of the changes that will now be live on consoles:

  • A host of new enemies and events to combat, defeat, and plunder for loot
  • Endgame Celestial Invasion Event and the Moonlord final boss encounter
  • Brand new underground biomes to explore – Granite, Marble and more!
  • New Expert mode designed to provide new challenges for even the most seasoned Terraria veterans –  with the promise of greater rewards
  • Updated crafting with multiple added item options
  • Changes to NPCs, as well as some new friendly faces
  • More than 800 new items to discover – bringing the total item count to more than 3500!
  • Numerous quality of life upgrades and features that until now were only available on PC

Terraria initially released in 2011 for PC. It is now available for almost every modern gaming platform imaginable with a Nintendo Switch version coming soon. For those who don’t know, it is a 2D action-adventure sandbox game that incorporates survival and crafting gameplay elements. Early last year, Re-Logic announced its popular title has sold over 20 million copies since it launched.

If the Xbox One is your primary platform of choice, now would be a good time to pick up Terraria; the game is on sale for 70% percent off until March 5th, 2018.
