Shovel Knight Developer to Hold Their Own PAX West Video Presentation Next Week

Today, Yacht Club Games, fan favorite developer of Shovel Knight, confirmed their plans for PAX West 2019. The will be bringing Shovel Knight: King of Cards, Shovel Knight: Showdown, Cyber Shadow, and a brand new title to the show and they will all be playable on Nintendo Switch units at Yacht Club Games’ booth. That level of attendance alone would probably please their fans, but Yacht Club Games is taking things one step further and is hosting a special video presentation with new announcements the week of PAX West.

Specifically, the video presentation will be taking place on their Twitch and YouTube channels at 2pm ET on August 28, two days before PAX West begins. It will likely cover all of the games above, and Yacht Club Games is even promising “tons of never before seen surprises” when it comes to Shovel Knight. While it would be awesome to see something brand new that features the character, I also hope to finally see release dates for Shovel Knight: Showdown and Shovel Knight: King of Cards, which were delayed earlier this year. It will also be cool to get more information on Cyber Shadow, which DualShockers’ describes as a game that “expertly blends the Matrix and Ninja Gaiden,”as well as that unannounced title they are teasing.

While the presentation is over four days away, you can bookmark this page to come back and watch it when it goes live with the video below. If you want to pre-order the physical release of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove so you can gain access to all of Shovel Knight’s content when it releases, you can currently do so on Amazon.

Shovel Knight’s Yacht Club Games is Publishing Cyber Shadow

Earlier this month, Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games teased that it would be revealing a new game it’s publishing at PAX East. Today, we learned that the title in question is MekaSkull’s Cyber Shadow which will be releasing for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

For those of you who haven’t heard of this game before, Cyber Shadow is an action platformer where players control a ninja named Shadow who is on a journey in the ruins of Mekacity. The game will embrace its 8-bit roots in both visual style and difficulty, though the modern technology is being used to help the visuals pop a bit more.

According to Yacht Club Games, the lauded indie studio approached Aarne “MekaSkull” Hunziker about publishing Cyber Shadow about two years ago. Aarne agreed, so Yacht Club Games came on to handle things like porting, marketing, and design feedback while the main game is being worked on. Cyber Shadow will be available to play at PAX East alongside Shovel Knight Showdown and King of Cards.

You can check out the latest screenshots for this new Yacht Club Games published title below. Cyber Shadow does not have a release date at this time but we do know that it will cost $14.99 and is coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Shovel Knight: King of Cards and Showdown Delayed

Yacht Club Games (Yacht Club from here on out) has announced via their blog that the final wave of Shovel Knight content has been delayed. The final two expansions, Amiibo, and the physical bundles for Switch and PS4 have been delayed for “several months– at most,” according to Yacht Club’s blog post.

The reason for the delay is polish and multi-team coordination, since launching these four products simultaneously is still Yacht Club’s priority. They want to have all the content on disc/cartridge for the physical releases and have these two full-fledged game expansions polished to their high standards for Shovel Knight. When addressing the initial disappointment fans may feel (I know I did), Yacht Club said this in their post,

“We realize the delay is disappointing. To communicate better with everyone moving forward, we will not be announcing a new date until we know one for sure, from all partners involved. All builds shipped out, updates ready to launch, for everybody and everyone. We will announce it for good once it is 100% all across the board!”

There is hope to be found in the delay though. The team promised updates more frequently since the delay is not major and teased impending trailers. With PAX East coming up, it’s not hard to imagine more being shown off where Shovel Knight was back in 2013. More insight was also shared for each element in progress, giving a glimpse behind this final stretch of development.

Shovel Knight: King of Cards will have over 30 levels, but are much shorter than previous levels in the series. Yacht Club is putting a huge emphasis on polishing these levels. Shovel Knight Showdown is getting its own Story Mode, plus all the stages, characters, and AI had to be created and balanced.

Yacht Club has also been making sure King Knight’s campaign will fit on the 3DS, as to not leave this final campaign out of one of the game’s original platforms. Localization for nine languages is also being done, plus testing every game and expansion on 10 different platforms for bugs. Yacht Club says they will not announce a date until they have a date locked in for future projects too.

Shovel Knight: King of Cards and Shovel Knight Showdown are the final two expansions and were set to be released simultaneously on April 9, alongside the Amiibo triple pack and the physical edition of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. This will also delay the fourth and final vinyl soundtrack releaseKing of Cards allows players to play as King Knight through an entirely new campaign with new levels, while Showdown is a Smash Bros. style brawler with all sorts of characters from the game. You can check out new screenshots for both games in the gallery below.

Shovel Knight Showdown Will be the Final Part of the Shovel Knight Treasure Trove Package

It’s 2018 and Yacht Club Games is still pumping out new content for Shovel Knight which originally launched back in 2014 and that’s equal parts awesome and unprecedented. Today, Yacht Club revealed the final piece of the Shovel Knight puzzle and this time around, it’ll bring in a multiplayer component.

Shovel Knight Showdown will at long last round out the complete Treasure Trove package and will allow you to battle with up to 4 different players. Each person will be able to select one of the many different characters from the Shovel Knight universe to fight one another or you can jump into the story mode by yourself for solo play.

Shovel Knight Showdown will come for free to those who have already purchased Treasure Trove and will also be available for standalone purchase. Unfortunately, however, it won’t be making its way to 3DS or Vita platforms.

As for other details associated with Showdown, Yacht Club’s website listed the following:

  • Play as all the key heroes and villains from Shovel Knight, many for the first time ever! Master over 16 playable characters including Shovel Knight, Shield Knight, Black Knight, The Enchantress, and all of the Knights of the Order of No Quarter!

  • Compete in one-on-one duels, frantic 4 player free-for-alls, and cooperative team battles against AI opponents or your friends in modes like Gem Clash, Showdown, and more!

  • Battle through Story Mode, a multistage journey customized for each character! Your chosen hero will face a rival, defeat scores of opponents, relax with a minigame or two, and hopefully see their tale completed after an all-new final encounter!

  • Explore myriad stages inspired by famous characters and locales in Shovel Knight, as well as a plethora of all-new stages.

  • Prepare and perfect your moves in a full-featured practice mode.

  • Yacht Club Game’s beautifully authentic style bridges the gap between yesterday and today. Design, art,

and audio hearken back to the days of 8-bit, but with a frenetic new coat of paint!

  • New songs compliment an award-winning soundtrack composed by Jake “Virt” Kaufman.

  • Balanced and intuitive gameplay is a warm welcome to newcomers, and an old embrace for experts.

As for the upcoming new King of Cards expansion for Shovel Knight, Yacht Club says that they haven’t forgotten about it. In fact, those who are still waiting for a release date for King of Cards can expect to finally get one later this week. Not only this, but Showdown will also see its first public appearance this weekend at PAX West.

You can check out a new gameplay video of Shovel Knight Showdown in action down below courtesy of IGN if you’d like to see more of what to expect from this new multiplayer element. You can also find some new screenshots beneath the gameplay video.

Currently, there’s no release date for Shovel Knight Showdown but we’ll likely learn more in the coming months.
