Earlier this year, Wayforward Technologies announced Shantae 5 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Apple Arcade. Not much about the project has been discussed since then, even on the series’ anniversary. While we still have not seen gameplay, Wayforward did confirm on Twitter that Shantae 5 will have an animated intro created by Studio Trigger. You can check out the tweet below, which shows work in progress production artwork for Shantae and Risky Boots.
We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with the amazing folks at @trigger_inc, who will be creating a brand-new opening animation for Shantae 5! We’ll have more details soon; for now, here’s a sneak peek at some production artwork! pic.twitter.com/KkTy0hxH0y

If you watch anime, you probably know Studio Trigger for their work on series like Little Witch Academia and Kill la Kill. Both of those series are attached to games, though Wayforward isn’t involved with either of those projects. This is not Studio Trigger’s first rodeo with creating an opening animation for a video game either. They created the intros for 2012’s Project X Zone, and this year alone they also have their hands in the aforementioned Kill la Kill – IF and Indivisible.
Whenever Wayforward decides to talk about Shantae 5 again, DualShockers will let you know. For now, we just know that it will arrive later this year with a (probably gorgeous) opening animation by Studio Trigger.
