XSEED Confirms No Content in Fate/EXTELLA LINK Was Censored for the West

XSEED Games has confirmed through Twitter that no content has been censored or removed in the upcoming Western release of Fate/EXTELLA LINK in any region or platform, as stated in a recent status update from their official Twitter account:

The tweet was posted in response to a fan’s inquiry for an official statement on the status of Fate/EXTELLA LINK, which has been a concern among some fans considering the recent cracking down of certain mature content by Sony USA in regards to titles published in the West on the PS4 and PS Vita platforms.

This has already occurred with XSEED’s other published title Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal in which they were forced to remove the Intimacy Mode from the PS4 release of the title. Omega Labyrinth Z‘s Western release for PS4 and PS Vita was infamously canceled, PQube’s official statement citing both issues with ratings boards and that they “must respectfully comply with the wishes of the platform holder.”

Even Capcom’s Devil May Cry 5 isn’t immune as some partial nudity had been censored with a lens flare effect. Sony USA has even been accused of such acts by Blizzard’s ex-Producer Mark Kern, stating that there is “a new wave of puritanism hitting games.”

While fans of the game are sure to be happy that Fate/EXTELLA LINK wasn’t affected by similar practices, only time will tell whether any other future releases of XSEED published titles, as well as other titles in general, will be censored in the West on Sony platforms. Fate/EXTELLA LINK is currently out for PS4, PS Vita, Switch, and PC.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal on PS4 Will Be Censored Due to “Wishes of the Platform Holder”

Today Xseed Games announced on Twitter that the upcoming Senran Kagura Burst remake Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal will be censored.

To be more precise, the interactive “intimacy mode” will be removed. This will also cause a “slight delay” in the release of the game, which was slated for the fall.

A second tweet also explained that the move was due to “respecting the wishes of the platform holder,” apparently indicating that Sony Interactive Entertainment took issue with the mode and demanded its removal.

Localization Producer Tom Lipschultz also had the following to add.

This isn’t the first time that the western arm of Sony Interactive Entertainment takes action against this kind of content, as opposition from the house of PlayStation caused the western release of Omega Labyrinth Z to be canceled.

Luckily for those wanting to enjoy the content removed from the PS4 version, the Steam version will be untouched and will launch simultaneously with the PS4 version with all the content intact. This is likely to Valve’s recent decision of not policing the content of the games sold on its storefront as long as it’s not illegal.

If you’re wondering what you will be missing on PS4, you can check out a video of the Intimacy mode below, courtesy of YouTube user insanity long play. Do keep in mind that it’s of course rather unsafe for work.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal Shows Story Gameplay in New Trailer

Marvelous launched a new gameplay trailer for Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal coming to PlayStation 4 on February 22 in Japan.

The trailer focuses on main characters, Asuka and Hibari, as they interact during the game’s story. This includes making comments about an enemy ninja who is standing in their path.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal is a remake of the 3DS exclusive Senran Kagura Burst. However, Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal will not feature the side-scrolling action that was presented by its predecessor. Instead, players will play through the game in full 3D with updated controls and graphics. Additionally, Yumi will make her way into the game’s story as a playable character. Originally, the icy character wasn’t introduced until Senra Kagura: Shinovi Versus.

Also, a separate trailer was launched showing a bonus costume “Forbidden Fruit Cutie Peach & Melon” that will come with early purchases in Japan.

Recently, Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal received new screenshots and even more gameplay in a trailer as well as a 5-minute gameplay trailer showing costume breaks and battles.

Currently, there is no official announcement of a western release, but Xseed Games appears to have recently teased an upcoming localization.
